Molds are small biological organisms that produce airborne spores to reproduce. They thrive in damp areas, and have been linked to various health effects. Potential health effects and symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints. Some molds can also promote deterioration of building structural components. The occurrence of molds can render a structure uninhabitable and uninsurable. EA personnel are properly trained to provide all aspects of mold control including baseline surveys, assessments, and abatement. Mold baseline surveys identify readily observable mold and physical deficiencies conducive to mold as a result of moisture and water infiltration through the structure envelope or substructure, or generated within the structure as a result of processes or mechanical systems. The baseline survey allows a user to assess the potential need for further assessment or other actions that may be appropriate including mold abatement and repair and replacement of building materials.
